5Huge, but effective.Mar 22, 2012

I think this must be the most effective cpu cooler that doesn't use liquid. It is large though.

Fitment: I have it on an ASRock P67 Extreme4 Gen3 board blowing up through the top vent in my Antec 300 case. It fits in the case just fine but in this position it blocks the first ram slot. I don't use that slot but if I did I think I could make things fit by rotating the heatsink to blow out the rear vent.

Installation: Installation was easy. Just add the grease, bolt it on, plug it in. The Antec 300 case has a cut-out so you can upgrade the cpu cooler without removing the motherboard.

Cooling power: As an experiment I unplugged all the case vans and ran my i5 CPU at 100% (3.1 GHz) for 5min. The cpu cooler revved up to 100% then backed off to about 90%, keeping the temp at about 50 C. Part of the reason it worked is that the case breathes well on its own. But this is a powerful heatsink!

I normally run one case fan in the top vent. With both 120mm fans running at minimum speed (800rpm for the cpu fan, 600rpm for the case fan), normal operating temp is just a few degrees above room temp.

Other notes: I don't push my computer very hard most of the time but I like it quiet. With a minimum number of efficient pwm fans and an SSD boot drive even the Antec 300 can be quiet.

Update: I did the same test with one 120mm case fan turned on. The fans stayed at minimum speed (very quiet) and the cpu temp never got above 45 C, which is the minimum temp setting in my fan speed utility. Sweet!
