Noctua NF-B9 92mm Case Fan

Bevelled Blade Tips

Due to advanced design measures like the bevelled blade tips, the NF-B9 is surprisingly quiet despite its outstanding airflow and pressure performance.

Vortex-Control Notches
Psychoacoustic optimizations like the Vortex-Control Notches make the NF-B9's noise pattern more pleasant to the human ear.

Smooth Commutation Drive
The new SC drive system reduces torque variations and thereby ensures improved running smoothness, particularly at lower speeds.

Self-stabilizing oil-pressure bearing
Noctua's well proven SSO-Bearing technology guarantees supremely quiet operation and exceptional long-term stability.

The NF-B9's highly-optimised blade design achieves an exceptional level of airflow and static pressure that most other fans can only reach at much higher speeds. Bevelled blade tips, Vortex-Control Notches as well as Noctua's SCD drive system and premium-grade SSO-Bearing ensure outstanding quietness and long-term stability.

5Sign me up for the "Noctua Fan Club"!May 30, 2009

This is a truly exceptional fan, obviously the result of some serious acoustical and mechanical R&D.

I was looking for ultra-quiet fans for an audio pc project, and discovered a trail of glowing reviews on the web for the Noctua fans, from professional reviewers as well as customers. So I purchased 3 of their 92mm fans from Amazon seller ModderSmart (good seller, BTW), and was very pleasantly surprised to discover that the hype is all true! This fan moves plenty of air with barely a whisper, providing the near-silent background required for an enjoyable music-listening experience.

The fan has 3 speeds, obtained with the use of adapter cables with series resistors, that are supplied with the fan. With the Ultra-Low Noise adapter cable, the fan is virtually inaudible, but still provides more than adequate cooling for my system. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a truly quiet 92mm fan.

P.S. Here's a little secret that many people seem to miss when they open the box containing the fan: Looking at the back of the box, you will see "OPEN" printed in the upper left corner. Pull on that corner to open the panel (it's secured with a velcro fastener), revealing instructions for installation and how to identify the adapter cables.

5Amazing Quiet FanJan 18, 2010

This fan is truly amazing. Installation was quick and easy; detailed instructions for how to install the fan are available on the manufacturer's website (a minor inconvenience). The fan went right to work after I plugged in the 3 pin connector to my motherboard and turned the computer on. I must say, this fan is nearly SILENT. I had a ok rear case fan previously that was moderately noisy, but this Noctua fan is practically silent; I had a hard time believing that the fan was working. The fan runs very smoothly with so little noise I don't even notice the fan is running. This fan is an excellent buy.

5Great fanNov 04, 2010

Am using this fan to lower temps on a PCI Express Graphics Card. The fan that came installed on it was worthless. I mounted this NF B9 1600 using all thread bolts with rubber washers to the bottom of PC case. It really works well. These fans might cost a little more, but when you see the quality and don't hear the noise....it's all worth it.

5A good as can be, honestly!Apr 27, 2011

I use a clone in my office and it is LOUD. After several years of pain and suffer, I decided to make things right.

This 92mm Noctua NF-B9 serves as my only case fan that moves air in and out of the case. In other words, it is responsible for cooling everything inside. I tried several fans before finding this winner:
0) The old one was simply junk.
1) A 92mm fan from a retired DELL. It actually worked well. But then the CPU cooler (an Intel stocked unit) became the noise maker. So I replaced it with a Sunbeam cooler ($29 from Newegg). Now the DELL fan was no good.
2) Switched to a 92mm Gield Silent 9 fan (temperature sensor controlled variable speed, 900-2000rpm), $8 from Directron. The PSU now stood out. It was an Ultra with bottom mounted 120mm fan. Decent but the fan is actually not quiet and, being bottom mounted, it is next the case fan and makes both fans work poorly. The thing also hums. To replace it, I got a Seasonic SS-300ES, a low end model at $38 from Newegg. It is efficient (80plus bonze) and near silent. Now the Gield fan was not good enough (motor makes an audible start-stop like noise at low speed, ~1300rpm).
3) Finally, this Noctua. Whatever techno bits mentioned on the box are TRUE. Both motor and airflow noises are minimal. Simply best of the best. I used the BLACK speed reduction connector (~1300rpm). Even at this speed, I can feel cool air getting pulled in up front and warm air exhausted out back. Motherboard sensors tell me that my computer is actually cooler than before.

Overall, this fan is great. The included speed lowering connetors is well thought of (you can make your own by just adding a resistor, ~100 ohms).

5virtually silent cooling!Feb 27, 2011
By D. F. Lowe
After reading the other reviews, I expected a pretty quiet fan. I did not expect its virtually silent operation. Even in a very quiet room, the sound this fan makes is barely perceptible.

Installation was easy, except for the soft rubber fan "screws" included. These do in fact make for a very silent, vibration free, installation, but they were a PAIN to get into place. Perhaps with experience a way could be found to get these installed more easily.

All said, this is a marvelous little fan. The high quality is obvious throughout and, in my case, it connected right to the mother board with no problem. It comes with added wiring to decrease fan speeds for even quieter operation, though in this installation they were not necessary.

This is a very high quality product I'd definitely recommend.
