CabCool1201 Single 120mm Fan Cooler Kit for Cabinet / Home Theaters w/Thermal Control
This is a kit for a single fan unit (6.25" x 6.25" x .125") that is meant to cool your cabinet or multimedia center.
Now with New Style - Fan Grills - Better Flow. Now with more space and larger wholes between honeycomb grill.
Can be mounted on any side of a cabinet, where room permits, by cutting a hole approximately 3/4" smaller on all sides of the outside bracket. Insert completed cooler assembly in hole and attach to cabinet with appropriate screws. Fans can be set to blow into or out of the cabinet depending on your needs. "Cooler in TX"
We knew we had a cooling problem after moving all components inside a new 70" solid wood media console.
We chose Cooler Guys for several reasons - they offer "Complete Kits", the Thermal Control, the Installation video, and last but not least > their prices are great compared to others.
I have to admit - I was pretty disappointed at first. I assembled the kit (it was easy) and plugged it in. The dual fans hardly created any breeze at all! I expected so much more! We seriously considered returning the kit. We didn't want to cut a sizable hole in the back of a nice media console - only to find out - it won't cool enough.
At this point, we had already pulled all the components out, moved the monster cabinet (it weighs 262 lbs) and prepped for sawing....when we faced this decision. Reluctantly, we decided to go forward. Installation didn't take long - measure, saw, add 4 screws and plug in.
Now the bottom line > what an AMAZING difference the dual CabCool kit made in our cabinet! It's quiet! It turns on / off automatically! And most important > it actually cools the components with the glass door closed! I keep checking it to make sure I'm not dreaming. And felt I had to write this review. I almost never gave it a chance.....very glad I did!

After moving our TiVo (with external hard drive) to a small shelf in our walk-in closet I realized the components were getting really hot. There was no way for the air to circulate - no venting to allow air to circulate. I ordered this kit to provide that airflow.
This kit is very simple: a 120mm fan (the type found in PC cases), a power supply, and a fan controller box with temperature probe. Coolerguys threw in some woodscrews, cable ties, and velcro tape for good measure.
The instructions are a bit lacking but it's not hard to figure out to assemble. The fan is sandwiched between a mesh screen and a grill, all held together with 4 bolts. After assembly I plugged it in and tested it by holding the temperature probe between my fingers. The fan kicked on and turned off after I let go of the probe.
This fan requires a 5 inch by 5 inch opening for mounting. The fan controller box can be attached to the cabinet with screws, the provided velcro tape, or just left loose. The power supply has plenty of wire so it doesn't have to be located near the fan.
Other than the poor instructions I only have one complaint. The power supply and fan controller both have green LEDs which could be annoying (it seems like everything comes with at least one LED that's on all the time) but they're easily covered with electrical tape. I uploaded a picture to show the LEDs.
On the positive side the fan controller box can control another fan, as long as it has a 3 pin connector. This makes it easy to upgrade this kit if I find the airflow isn't enough. A good, quiet 120mm fan can be purchased for under $10 and Amazon sells a grill and a wire fan guard if another fan is installed. Keep in mind that fans with a sleeve bearing should only be used in the vertical position; get a fan with ball bearings for horizontal mounting. This will increase the fan's life and decrease noise. The fan that comes with this kit uses ball bearings and spins as 1200 RPM, moving 46 CFM.
The temperature around the components has noticeably dropped so I'm satisfied. The kit is a bit expensive for what you get but it saved me the time of scrounging all the parts myself so it was worth it. I recommend this kit - in fact, I'm going to order another one for our main entertainment center. My wife likes to keep the glass doors on it shut - the price of this kit may seem expensive for what it comes with but it's a lot cheaper than what it's protecting!

The Cabcool 1201 Single 1201mm Fan Cooling Kit, from Coolerguys saved me a lot of money. The installation was very simple to perform, all the material was in the kit. The thermal control works as advertised and the fan is very quiet and powerful. The automatic turn on and off works great. I can keep my component cabinet close and not concerned of over heatingof my Stereo system. It is a 5 Star product.

I have had this fan for over a month now and remain very happy with its operation. I have it configured to blow air into my closed electronics cabinet. Specifically, it is aimed at blowing air over the top of my Onkyo receiver. Periodically I check the top of the receiver for warmth. It remains much cooler than before I employed this fan............and hopefully extending the life of my receiver.
