4Best Low-Profile Heatsink/FanNov 29, 2011
By TheMindParasite
I replaced the "Amd AM2 65W Cpu Fan" by Thermaltake in my SilverStone ml03b HTPC case. Turns out, it was the 80mm fans making most of the noise, but this was also an improvement. My CPU temp went down a few degrees, fan noise was noticeably cut, and it was fairly easy to install. There's not much else to say about this other than, if you need a low profile heatsink/fan, this is your choice right here.

5Great low profile Fan for a HTPCOct 02, 2011
By gteData
I have owned two of these FANS and have not had any problems. I am grateful that Scythe builds these low profile CPU fans with such a superior design. There are 13 fan blades and the fan is very quiet, the heat sink has aluminum fins with copper heat exchange pipes. Size limitations in the small HTPC cases minimize the use of case fans, so the only air movement is from the video card fan, CPU fan and the Power supply fan. To get the heat away from your 95W processor you need a good heat exchanger and the SCSK-1100 meets that requirement. The only trade off in the design of the SCSK-1100 is that it is wide and will overshadow the 1st dram slot. So do not try to match the SCSK-1100 with RAM with a height greater than 39mm. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series memory works with the SCSK-1100

5Great little coolerFeb 03, 2012

I bought this cooler to use with an AMD X2 250 in a HTPC. This was by far the easiest HSF installation I've ever done including stock HSF installations. The clips are very easy to secure on my AM2+ motherboard.

The fan is fairly quiet as well. In fact, I can hear more noise coming from my power supply fan in this HTPC than I can from this HSF.

5One of the best low profile CPU coolers . . . at this price point . . .Jan 04, 2012

Our company builds high end workstations and graphic workstations. The preferred case is now the Small Form Factor (SFF) and this fan works great with the motherboard of our choice, "Biostar". We built using the TA790GX XE and had no clearance problems . . . but your mileage will vary depending on your MB layout.

The fan is quiet and can be run as slow as 650rpms and up to 2200 rpms depending on your motherboard's ability (four pin). This heatsink and fan combination lower the CPU temperature by 20 to 40 degrees (depending on system configuration). The connectors to the motherboard are simple for AMD boards . . . one of the best and easiest to use (spring loaded).

The idea of this CPU cooler is a large thin fans with 13 blades can move the same amount of air as a faster smaller fan (11.81CFM tp 31.91CFM). The heatsink itself has three copper pipes and a polished face that are supported by an alloy frame. The four pin fan can be used on a three or four pin connector. At this price point it is an excellent cooler. If you want more than you simply have to pay more.

1fan collides with #1 DIMM slotSep 04, 2011
By Derrick Garbell
This Shuriken B Scythe fan was not compatible with my Gigabyte Z68X-UD5-B3 system board's layout, nor will it work with dozens of other mobo's. Although Shuriken claims the fan is 100% compatible with several mobos, including LGA1155, LGA1156 & LGA775 & similar, it will not work with many system boards if the user expects to populate all four DIMM slots.
Although the fan is notable for its lower profile, surely Shuriken is aware that its greater *width* makes it unusable with *many* motherboards because it disallows usage of the #1 DIMM slot! Many mobo's have the memory banks quite close to the CPU slot, thus wide fans & fins may create an unsolvable situation.
Shuriken should warn its customers of this drastic limitation. Product listing and box both should tell customers that the fan disallows insertion of RAM into that slot. Perhaps customers who want only 8 or 12 GB RAM won't mind, but I bought 4 modules at 4 GB each and I intended to use all four slots and have 16 GB.
This product listing should be changed to include a caveat:
"Warning: this low profile fan, while shorter, is WIDER; customer must be sure that added fan fin width does not impact other components on system board to be used."

That way before buying the customer can note the fan's stated width, measure it centered over the intended CPU, and see where the fan would extend to. If heat sink fins overhang a DIMM slot or other connector, then the fan is incompatible with the customer's mobo. This simple warning would put the burden on the customer to check for compatibility.
