Leaking!!!Aug 27, 2008
By J. Ondrich It looked nice when it arrived, but started to leak almost immediately when it got hot!!! I contacted the reseller(DealzPc) many times but they didn't answer my emails(through amazon.com) and when they finally answered my call they told me to send them an email to different email address. So I did so and no answer again!!! I've tried few more times but it was pointless:-(
Compact, lightweight, and no power requiredJul 14, 2010
By Professor Butterscotch I have the black version of this mat, and I've always used this for my HP 14" laptop. I was looking for a nice laptop cooling mat, without fans or anything that needs power. This fit my needs - something that's not too bulky like some of the cooling mats with fans.
I have had this mat for 2 years now, and counting - and it still works very well in keeping my laptop cool. Most of the time this cooling mat lies on my little work desk, with my laptop sitting on it. So far, it never leaked, and it kept my laptop from overheating pretty well without any issues.
As for the traction, this cooling mat doesn't really offer a lot. It will have some slippage, although traction wasn't really my priority when I was looking for a cooling mat. Also, it may sound too anal, but the Amazon box that came with this laptop was too big (it could fit 6 regular shoe boxes in it), I at first doubted its contents when the shipment came. :)
I would say this would work well on laptops for people who don't subject their laptops to extreme usage - also, I think this cooling mat will fit snugly on laptops not more than 14". I am still very satisfied with this product.
Not what you think it isMar 07, 2010
By Branden Ramsdell Thermaltake has always provided me with excellent cooling devices; but this one may have disappointed.
While the concept is unique and intuitive, it does not work like Thermaltake would have you think it does. This product seems to have been designed with desktop replacement, or just awfully hot laptops in mind. When applied to a Sony VAIO CW series laptop, the average temperature dropped MAYBE a degree. However, when put to use under a custom made desktop replacement laptop that averaged approximately 63 F (17 C) without any external cooling, the CPU temperature dropped to 50 F (10 C) with the iXoft pad under it! Both of these laptops were tested while playing a Blu-Ray movie running approximately 90 minutes in duration.
Despite doing a meager job at keeping the VAIO cool, the look of the iXoft pad complimented that of the white VAIO and was not bulky nor troublesome. The laptop stayed relatively still on the pad, though would slip from time to time; such is to be expected though. The size of the pad did not hold up well against the larger desktop replacement laptop (19" screen), it was either covering only the center, or one particular corner for the CPU. It fit snuggly beneath the VAIO though (14" screen)
I give it a four out of five stars. While snazzy and cool looking, the iXoft pad just doesn't quite do its task. If you've got a relatively small laptop that has a high operating temperature, this may be just the cooling device for you! For those of you looking for something to keep your lap cool and your laptop even cooler, you ought to do your research before settling.
What you really need to keep the notebook cool is ventilationOct 12, 2009
By Hsa Atpu I bought this because I believed all the crap about the gel dissipating the heat better. However, the bottom of the pad cannot dissipate any heat because of its thickness. The top of the pad is where the laptop is so there is nowhere for the heat to escape. It will only prevent your lap/thighs from getting hot.
In my experience using it with my macbook pro 15 inch, the laptop temperatures were not affected at all!
Also, the white surface where the laptop is supposed to go, is extremely slippery. So the laptop will slide off the mat, which is a huge downside.
So believe me, and do not buy this 'notebook cooler'
