"Providence knows best"
I got this because I had an old CD-ROM drive from a Powermac G5 system I once had and wanted to make use of it. Actually I had a task of transfering my step-dad's entire cd collection to his new ipod.
I didn't want to over-stress the drive on my Macbook Pro, and so I decided to give this adapter a try.
Well, it connected to my system without any problems. I didn't have to install any drivers and it works on both my OS X and windows XP partitions.
I am very satisfied and would recommend it.

my first time seeing one of these devices
my ide ports are full and it makes it easier to get data off of old hard drives
it confused me a little at first when i did not realize that you have to plug in the usb port LAST
and the power port fits a little funny on one of my harddrives..have to really jam it on there..and it barely stays
but overall im satisfied

Great idea for a product, except that it doesn't work very well. I was able to basically connect and such, but any attempts to transfer reasonable amounts of data it would just lock up. Other USB devices work just fine. Have tried several of these and they are all poor. Too bad.
