High Quality FanMay 01, 2009
By DaveC
"siu D"
First of all, Scythe has 4 models of S-Flex fans, SFF21D, SFF21E, SFF21F, SFF21G, with increasing RPMs and of course noise levels. I have SFF21E and SFF21F, one in front as intake and another in the back as exhaust. Both fans are high quality and run very quietly. The back one runs at ~1000 RPM due to the speed control on my motherboard but it still generates quite a bit of air flow. I'm very happy with this product.

Super quiet. Moves a lot of airFeb 28, 2008
By Dr. C I use a pair of these to move air through my audio/video receiver and cable company DVR. They are in a cabinet with a glass door and I was worried about heat build-up. I had already drilled some large holes in the back (top and bottom) of the cabinet and in the shelf under the two devices. I placed one fan above each device and the air is pulled through. I used the switched plug on the back of each device to turn the fans on. I wired them up using some 12VDC power supplies from defunct electronics.
Just ignore the yellow wire coming from the fan. That is used for feedback of the speed if you are controlling them with a thermostat. Just hook up the red and black wires.
Very slient. Can't hear anything outside the cabinet when they are on.

After almost 2 years now only one of very few case fans will buyAug 17, 2010
By Neil E. Isenberg Until I see otherwise from now on this will be one of the only case fans I will buy.
- Super quiet for a given air flow (cfm) by my experience and 3rd party review - Almost 2 years in and all still running and still super quiet
I used 3rd party review sites to find the very few fans that give great airflow despite being whisper quiet. I bought several of what seemed to be the best reviewed of them. Almost 2 years later now this is the only one of the fans that haven't stopped spinning nor started making more noise, the latter being the more common fate.
Using some cheap speed adjusters (Zalman Fan For Case Fanmate-2 Fan Speed Controller Retail) and the "speedfan" download to monitor temperature and fan speed, I've also toyed with various speeds for noise and heat. All those fans reviewed by the site did great and all were used in my rigs for almost 2 years, my last systems refresh. Only this one, and in fact all of the ones I bought of this model are still running and still super quiet.
Most recently the last of a different case fan that I had a few of, highly sought after for its quietness and reviewed very highly on 3rd type sites, stopped spinning on my thermaltake heatsink and the only thing that saved my computer was having accidentally chosen a CPU with a very high critical temp (and having a great heatsink, although I'm using smaller new one with similar capability now). I replaced it with a SFF21E and it's all good now.
The airflow is such, despite being whisper quiet, that with one fan hanging off the heatsink alone the hottest core is doing just fine temperature wise. Again, though, it is a very high quality heatsink.
This of course may just be great luck for this fan model and terrible luck for the other fan models on such a small sampling.
Side Notes: There are better fan speed controllers, I just went for cheap and easy fit within the case. Just be aware that these don't have smooth adjustment all the way through the range, the knob turns smoothly but the fan speed steps down. When finding the fan speeds that meet the right balance of noise and temperature you might consider using the free "speedfan" download (or one of several other fan/temp monitor programs) to look at fan speed, listen to the fan in question, and watch for temperature after a while.
Highly recommend.

F for intake - E for exhaustNov 03, 2010
By M. Swan This is the "E" model. My case was under-pressured therefore my PSU was tripping off due to heat (PSU was being robbed of air by rifle cooler and high volume exhaust fan). So I put a Scythe "F" on the bottom front of my case and this Scythe "E" on the back for exhaust. Now plenty of air for everybody, and my Zalman PSU is happy again.
THE END
lol
Great FanMar 13, 2012
By Matthew W. Feemster Great fan so far. Minimal noise. Although the true test is whether or not it'll still be running in 2 or 3 years and not flame out in 6 months like cheaper fans do.
I've had great experiences with Scythe products in the past, so I'm sure this one will go the distance as well.
