Agreed, not durableJul 20, 2009
By Larry Peters I've had this laptop cooler for about a year and half. I was originally using it on my XBox 360, but for the past year have been using it on an actual laptop. I stopped using it with the XBox because the outgoing usb ports died, now I've noticed that the left fan has just plain stopped and there are two broken fins on the right fan. This is through normal use.
Best Laptop Cooler for under $40Sep 14, 2009

I have bought a number of these coolers for all of my current and past laptops. This is an older model but it continues to amaze me. It drops the processor temperature about 5-10 degrees Celsius and the same goes for the hard drive. Use "Mobile Meter" if you need a way of monitoring your temperatures. All of my laptops have lasted a minimum of 4 years with >8 hours running time each day. It may be that my laptops are just good but a lower operating temperature likely prolongs longevity. A couple pieces of info: do not use it to cool off your Xbox, it's not designed for that. The cooler must be on a flat surface and not your lap. Air needs to underneath the cooler so it can draw air from it. Not all laptops are designed the same so this may not be the best cooler for you. The fans have been positioned perfectly for my Dells and Acers. For Alienware it may not be that great. Currently it can be had cheaper outside of Amazon.

This is a great laptop cooler. It's lightweight and connects with a simple USB for power.

I rarely used this Vantec Lapcool2 since my purchase. Recently I intended to use it more often and one day I notice it gets more noisy and take a closer look. One fan doesn't work at all and the other one has missing blades. I have notebook on my lap and sitting on my bed most of the time while using it. I didn't put a lot of hours on it. Bottom line it's not well made. At that time I decide to find some durable well made cooling pads and set my eyes on a few full aluminum pads with 3 fans. Then I came across a sale on Antec's cooling pad. Though it's not full aluminum, I thought it's cheap with 3 year warranty and I would give it a try. I have to say Antec's (not Vantec's Lapcool2) cooling pad is well constructed with durable materials and the fans are quiet. So far I am very happy with Antec's (again not Vantec's Lapcool2) cooling pad.
