I found out too late that Dells do not use the same type of 3-pin adapters as most other computers. This adapter is necessary, particularly on older Dells that only offer a single outlet to run multiple fans. If you want to upgrade your Dell's cooling system you'll need this.

Installed this in a Dell Dimension 3000 to connect a new beQuiet fan, and it works well - though once in every three or four startups I still get a "previous fan failure" warning, that requires me to press F1 before Windows boots. Installing was very easy; one end fits onto the end of the beQuiet-supplied cable, the other goes into the motherboard where the Dell fan was attached before.
