This product certainly functions as an extension and as long as you plug it in once and never remove it you should be fine. HOWEVER, if you remove the plug be sure to pull it from in front of the plastic housing. Unlike most 3 pin cables, the connectors are crimped outside the plastic connectors as apposed to inside them. This means even a light tug can pull the cable from the connector and it's a pain to get the package back together. Other than that issue I didn't have a problem with this item.
